Pro-Trump propaganda takes center stage: Steven Bannon continues to spread misinformation despite facing major legal hurdles

Steve Bannonfar-right strategist and staunch ally of Donald Trumpcontinues to wield influence in propaganda circles surrounding the former US president, amid the latter’s efforts to regain the White House while facing numerous legal challenges.

While waiting for a federal appeals court to decide whether to lift his congressional obstruction of conviction, Bannon, known for his conspiratorial tendencies, is grappling with fraud charges in New York and other legal issues stemming from former lawyers and potentially from other sources, The Guardian reported.

At the same time, Bannon leveraged his “War Room” podcast to spread a deluge of election disinformation, bolstering Trump’s bid for a presidential comeback and supporting a MAGA-focused political platform, the report said.

Bannon’s “War Room” podcast has gained tens of thousands of people each month thanks to Gettr advertising, the Guardian added.

The show, featuring Trump allies such as Elise Stefanik and Mike Lindell, was named the top promoter of misinformation among political podcasts last year by a Brookings Institution study.

However, Bannon told the New York Times that his mania was a “badge of honor… What they call disinformation or disinformation we consider to be the truth.”

Former Justice Department prosecutors, along with Democrats and Republicans, have suggested that Bannon has little chance of winning an appeal of his obstruction conviction, anticipating further legal challenges for the outspoken MAGA supporter.

Meanwhile, analysts have warned that Bannon’s spread of election falsehoods and disinformation poses a threat to democracy, The Guardian added.

Currently, Bannon’s most significant legal challenge is his federal conviction on two counts and a four-month prison sentence for disobeying a House subpoena related to the Jan. 6 insurrection and Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 elections, the report said.

As Bannon’s “War Room” continues to promote MAGA disinformation, the pompous strategist faces other financial problems as well.

Robert Costello, a former lawyer for Bannon who played a key role in Trump’s pardon of the strategist, filed a claim against him last year for $480,000 in sums owed.

Costello and his firm won summary judgment from the New York Supreme Court to get the payment, but Bannon, with the help of Protass, is fighting the ruling.
