LIMA (Reuters) – Peruvian prosecutors raided President Dina Boluarte’s home on Friday evening as part of an investigation into possible illicit enrichment and failure to declare ownership of luxury watches.
Police broke down the door of the home, television images showed, apparently after officials’ requests to open went unanswered. Radio station RPP said Boluarte was not at his home in the Surquillo neighborhood at the time of the raid.
Officials in Boluarte’s office were not immediately available to comment.
Two weeks ago, prosecutors began preliminary investigations to verify media reports that the president owned several Rolex watches. The investigation aimed to establish whether there were grounds for a formal investigation against the president.
Boluarte, in office since December 2022, acknowledged owning Rolex watches, which he said he had purchased with money he earned since he was young.
Earlier this month, in connection with the news, she said she entered the president’s office with clean hands and would leave with clean hands.
The prosecutor’s office had unsuccessfully attempted to carry out a clock check at Boluarte’s office on Wednesday, but his lawyers said there had been a clash between appointments in the diary and they tried to reschedule the appointment.
The investigation into Boluarte is the latest in a long series of investigations into Peruvian presidents and senior officials.
