Many Americans vote for Republicans because they will presumably do the opposite of Democrats. Especially on a topic like shopping.
But what if Republicans were as bad as Democrats on the issue?
What if the current Republican-led House spent more than the House when it was led by Nancy Pelosi?
That’s exactly what some conservative Republicans say happened Wednesday night, when the Republican majority in the House passed Chuck Schumer’s “minibus” spending bill.

Republicans are no better than Democrats on spending bills
From Yahoo News, “The House of Representatives pushed through a government funding bill days before a partial government shutdown expires — and some far-right Republicans aren’t happy.”
Apparently, “far right” means being concerned about excessive government spending.
Anyway the story continued:
The more than $450 billion “minibus” funding package passed the House on Wednesday by a vote of 339-85, with nearly all Democrats and 132 Republicans voting in favor. Members of the far-right House Freedom Caucus expressed their dismay at the compromise.
The hardline group released a joint statement Tuesday encouraging other Republicans to vote against the spending bill, arguing that it does not address GOP priorities and sacrifices the influence they have with the House majority.
The Republicans who voted no wanted their voice of opposition to be heard, loud and clear.
From Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene:
Several members of the Freedom Caucus tagged the bill as “#SwampOmnibus” on social media.
From Lauren Boebert, quoting Joe Biden’s upcoming State of the Union address on Thursday:
Representative Thomas Massie pointed out that Senator Lindsey Graham added eight points in the approved omnibus.

What’s the point of the Republican Party?
Yahoo noted: “The ‘minibus’ law funds several departments, including the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Justice, Transportation and Veterans Affairs . It now goes to the Senate to be converted into law. Several additional appropriations bills will need to be passed by March 22 to keep Congress afloat and avoid a government shutdown this year.”
If Republicans spend as much – or more – than Democrats, what is the purpose of their party?
What is the point of still voting Republicans?
