Russian ballistic and cruise missiles targeted Kiev before dawn Thursday, with debris exploding into civilian and commercial infrastructure and sparking fires across the city, according to authorities.
The Financial Times heard at least two missiles flying low over central Kiev before Ukrainian air defenses intercepted them. At least two more were heard exploding in the distance a few minutes later.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said missile debris fell on a kindergarten and a residential building, as well as hitting cars and businesses, causing fires. Klitschko said 10 people were injured by the exploding debris, with two hospitalized.
The airstrike is the first against the Ukrainian capital in several weeks, although deadly Russian drone and missile strikes have hit targets elsewhere.
