Scarlett Johansson rocks as Katie Britt on SNL

Scarlett Johansson played Senator Katie Britt in a faithful parody of the Republican response to the State of the Union on SNL.

Johansson, as Britt said, “But I’m auditioning for the scary mom part tonight. And I will perform an original monologue entitled “This country is hell.” You see, I’m not just a senator; I’m a wife, a mother, and the craziest bitch in the Target parking lot. I’m worried about our children’s future, and that’s why I invited you into this strange, empty kitchen. Because the Republicans wanted me to appeal to women voters, and women love cooking.”

Britt’s lies about the sex trafficking story didn’t go unnoticed by SNL: “But first and foremost, I’m a mom. And like every mom, I’m going to make an out-of-nowhere twist on an incredibly violent story about sex trafficking. And rest assured, every detail is real except the year, where it happened and who the president was when it happened.”

SNL didn’t miss the GOP’s 2020 amnesia: “Kitchens are where families have the difficult conversations. Like what we’ll have tomorrow about how mom scared the whole country. But it is Biden who is destroying our country. Simply ask yourself: are you better today than you were four years ago? Back to the good old days of 2020, the year when nothing bad happened.”

SNL threw viewers a nice curveball by making it seem like they were going to give Biden’s State of the Union address and then throwing it to Britt.

They had to do Katie Britt. It’s been two days and people are still talking about her SOTU Republican response to her. It was such a huge disaster. SNL works best when it’s above pop culture and political humor, and Scarlett Johansson as Katie Britt was another cold open star that worked.
