Senate Democrats will scrap Mayorka’s impeachment trial in a matter of hours Thursday, with little opposition from Republicans.

Senate Democrats intend to “kill” the House’s impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas as quickly as possible on Thursday, a member of the Democratic leadership said in an interview.
Michigan Sen. Debbie Stabenow, the No. 3 Democrat, deadpanned Tuesday that the Senate majority “will treat this issue with the seriousness it deserves.”

Democrats are planning for the entire proceeding, including speeches and votes on procedural issues, to last a few hours Thursday, depending on how many votes Republicans force, according to two people familiar with the matter. Party leaders would then move to end the trial, likely with a motion to table it.
The Senate only needs to meet the constitutional requirements for holding an impeachment trial. Once the trial begins, the Senate can do what it wants with it. It doesn’t have to last days, contain arguments or even result in a verdict. The Senate can take the constitutionally required steps very quickly and then throw the trial in the dumpster and move on as if it never happened.
Senate Republicans may put on a show on the border, but they are more interested in taking back the majority in November, and appear to have no interest in Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s impeachment plans.
DHS Sec. The House impeached Mayorkas without specifying a major crime or misdemeanor. The House impeachment was a frivolous political stunt that was intended to whip up border hysteria by pandering to right-wing media.
The entire trial is not worth the two hours the Senate wastes on it. Once the childish Mayorkas impeachment stunt is put aside, the Senate will be able to get back to real business.
