Seoul spies say North Korean hackers stole semiconductor secrets

North Korean hackers allegedly stole secrets of South Korean microchip manufacturing technology, prompting Seoul’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) to call for better cyber defenses.

Reports say the NIS is blamed North Korean cybercrime groups of compromising the servers of two separate (so far unnamed) microchip manufacturers in South Korea and Steal semiconductor designs and photos of the structure.

“We believe that North Korea may be preparing to produce its own semiconductors despite difficulties in sourcing them due to sanctions,” the NIS said in a statement.
