Sports Illustrated finds a lifeline

The fate of Sports Illustrated has been murky since the beginning of the year. The Arena Group, which had published the magazine for the past five years, stopped paying Authentic licensing fees for publishing rights in January and told its employees that virtually all of them would be fired. This came months after the company was accused of publishing articles written by AI and attributed to non-existent journalists.

Ross Levinsohn, CEO of Arena Group, was fired weeks after these allegations surfaced, as were three other executives.

As part of the deal, Authentic will also acquire an equity stake in Minute Media.
