With less than a week until the criminal trial, Stephen Colbert mocked Trump’s efforts to delay the case.
Colbert said:
Trump’s lawyers argued that the former president would not get a fair trial because the jury pool was tainted by news coverage of Trump’s other recent cases. So you’re saying the jury members couldn’t have seen any news about Donald Trump’s crimes? His crimes are the news!
I do not understand. Who would leave? “Your Honor, it is right that our client should be judged by an impartial jury who knows nothing of the events that have occurred in America over the past nine years. I could recommend 12 confused men who were abandoned in a forest as newborns and then raised by wolves, or, if they’re not available, we could acquire some cloned children who were rapidly aged into some sort of machine and then released into the jury box ? OH? Oh, they think he’s guilty too? All right.”

Trump’s change of venue request wasn’t the only desperate stunt he pulled. He even tried to sue the judge. Yes, it’s a bizarre court! The defendant sues the judge! The Bible swears by the bailiff! The gavel is hitting everyone! I think it’s one of Stormy’s movies. The gavel is hitting everyone! The lawsuit challenges the gag order Judge Merchan imposed on Trump to prevent him from verbally attacking witnesses, jurors and others, including, importantly, the judge’s daughter, whom Trump attacked on social media. Trump also called on Judge Merchan to recuse himself, citing bias. Yes, the judge must recuse himself because Trump attacked the judge’s family.

Trump’s lawyers’ argument is basically that the former president committed too many crimes in Manhattan to get a fair trial, so Trump needs his trial moved to a location less familiar with his history of criminal activity.
Stephen Colbert was right. Trump is desperate. The failed former president didn’t really believe he would ever stand trial, and why would he?
Trump is a person who got away with all his leftism and was never held accountable, so it must be shocking for him to have to face the consequences of his actions.
Defendant Trump will become increasingly desperate as accountability approaches and seems powerless to stop it.
