A section of the TC Energy project (NYSE:TRP) Alberta’s NGTL pipeline system exploded Tuesday about 25 miles outside Edson, Alberta, starting a small fire, Global news reported.
The pipeline caught fire late Tuesday morning, sending up a large plume of flames and smoke visible from several kilometers away, according to the relationship.
TC Energy (TRP) said it isolated and shut down a section of the NGTL pipeline system after receiving notification of an incident at approximately 11 a.m. MT, forcing it to activate emergency response procedures.
Canada’s energy regulator said it was sending inspectors to oversee the company’s response.
The NGTL is TC Energy’s (TRP) natural gas gathering and transportation system for the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and connects to the Canadian Mainline system, the Foothills system and other third-party pipelines.
