The electric vehicle giant Tesla Inc TSLA he apparently built 6,000 Model Ys in one week at his Berlin gigafactory.
What happened: Lars Lengacker, an associate quality engineer at Tesla Germany, posted a video on LinkedIn earlier this week of a silver Model Y with several T-shirts on it. The T-shirts feature graphics reading “1k”, “2k”, “3k” and so on, alluding to the weekly production milestones achieved at the Giga factory in Berlin. One of the T-shirts has “6k” printed on it, suggesting the company has reached that milestone as well.
Quality Director Bob Foulkes he also took to LinkedIn to acknowledge the engineer’s post and wrote: “Your post is something we all feel at Giga, something that pulses inside us, a pride in what we have achieved. The hood of your beautiful new Quicksilver Model Y is littered with trophies of our accomplishments – from 1K all the way up to 6K and beyond.”
Foulkes also posted a photo of factory workers wearing the 6K T-shirt, suggesting that the company has indeed achieved its goal.
However, Tesla has yet to officially confirm this historic achievement.
Because matter: In March Giga Berlin reached a weekly production capacity of 5,000 vehicles. The factory currently has an annual production capacity of 375,000 Model Ys.
Last month, Tesla reduced Model Y prices in Germany by 1,900 euros ($2,065.60) on the base version and by as much as 5,000 euros on the Long Range and Performance versions.
The rear-wheel drive variant of the SUV is now listed at 42,990 euros on the company’s European website, while the Long Range version is priced at 49,990 euros and the Performance version at 55,990 euros.
