FORT MEADE, Md. – Dave Luber became the National Security Agency’s (NSA) new Director of Cybersecurity on April 1. As the new Director of Cybersecurity, he oversees the NSA’s Cybersecurity Directorate (CSD), whose core mission is to prevent and eradicate cyber threats to the Department of Defense, National Security Systems, and the defense industrial base.
“I am honored to take the lead in cybersecurity at the NSA,” said Luber. “I look forward to building on our team’s outstanding achievements and continuing to work with partners throughout the community.”
Luber’s wealth of experience and impressively diverse portfolio make him uniquely qualified to fill this critical role for the NSA and the nation. Luber served for more than 37 years in a myriad of roles including deputy director of cybersecurity at the NSA; Executive Director (EXDIR) for US Cyber Command (USCYBERCOM), the highest-ranking and third-in-command civilian at USCYBERCOM; Director of NSA Colorado; Program Director in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence; and head of the NSA’s Remote Operations Center, Custom Access Operations, and Computer Network Operations.
Luber succeeds Rob Joyce, who retired after 35 years of service to the NSA. Joyce assumed the role of director of the NSA Information Security Directorate (CSD) in 2021. He led the CSD’s mission to prevent and eliminate threats to national security systems and critical infrastructure and oversaw the expansion of strong partnerships between the U.S. government, the defense industrial base, , allies and academia.
Luber’s impressive career history and commitment to maintaining cybersecurity transformation, driving awareness of new capabilities and capabilities, and growing the next generation of critical cybersecurity professionals will enhance NSA’s performance and partnerships .
