Apparently, after promising to take executive action to better secure the US-Mexico border, Joe Biden now feels no sense of urgency in doing so.

At least according to a new report from Politico.

Has the president paid attention to the border chaos?

We still have a border problem, Mr. President.

In February, the Biden administration was expected to take executive action regarding the border crisis, as Congress continued to pursue a spending package that would combine border aid with assistance from Ukraine and Israel.

But according to Politico, the White House no longer has any sense of urgency on this front.

“I’m in that pretty classic mode, nothing’s on fire right now,” one immigration policy advocate told Politico on condition of anonymity.

The story continued:

The administration could still proceed unilaterally in the weeks or months ahead, a White House official said, adding that no specific actions previously considered had been confirmed or ruled out. But the lengthened timeframe reflects a newfound belief that the president now has some room to address the issue.

The president’s team believes that congressional Republicans’ rejection of a bipartisan border deal and the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas allowed them to neutralize the political backlash Biden was facing and even gain some benefits in the polls. With border crossings down from December highs, White House officials are eager to give as much air as possible to Biden’s recent message on the border — that Republicans are using the issue for political gain.

“[Biden’s] I’m very confident in that message,” said a person familiar with the administration’s thinking, who was granted anonymity to discuss private conversations. “So I think they’re going to continue to try to explain it to the public.”

Biden will be wiser at the border

Given that his poll numbers are lower than Trump’s in key conflict states, it may be unwise for Biden to continue to ignore the chaos at the borders.

Furthermore, as President, he should at least not give a damn about one of the worst crises facing the country.

Yet according to Politico it simply doesn’t.
