The U.S. House of Representatives voted 360-58 on Saturday to pass a bill that would force Chinese tech giant ByteDance ( BDNCE ) to sell its popular video platform TikTok or face being banned from app stores Americans.
The measure marked the start of a series of votes the House was expected to consider as part of a $95 billion foreign aid package and national security bills supporting Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.
House lawmakers voted overwhelmingly in favor of a similar bill targeting TikTok last month, with bipartisan support. However, the latest bill extends the divestiture timeline from 180 to 270 days and allows President Joe Biden to extend the timeline another 90 days.
After the House vote on Saturday, the TikTok measure, including other bills, will move to the Senate, where the new effort will be subject to rapid consideration by lawmakers.
