A new 2024 election poll of registered Republican voters shows that former Pres Donald Trump increased his lead over his main GOP rival Nikki Haley before Super Tuesday on March 5.
What happened: According to the latest Morning Consult poll, the percentage of Trump supporters compared to Haley supporters is as follows (results from last week’s poll are in parentheses):
- Trump: 82% (81%)
- Haley: 17% (18%)
- Someone else: 2% (1%).
Haley struggled to beat Trump in early voting states, including New Hampshire, Iowa, Nevada, Idaho, Michigan, Missouri and North Dakota, as well as in her home state of South Carolina, where she served as governor for eight years.
Haley secured her first primary victory in Washington DC
Trump currently leads the race with 273 delegates, compared to Haley’s 43.
The tally is likely to change once all the Super Tuesday votes are counted, which could mark a turning point in the election or the potential end of Haley’s 2024 presidential campaign.
Republicans went to the polls Tuesday in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia. This represents the largest total of states and delegates available to candidates during the primary season.
About 36% of the delegates in the 2024 primaries are up for grabs.
A recent Super Tuesday poll showed Haley failing to get more than 28% support in eight states.

Because it is important: Trump’s lead grew to 65 points, hitting new all-week highs despite his four indictments.
Trump’s lead has been fairly consistent in the range of 62 to 63 points. This is especially true since he is a pharmaceutical entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and governor of Florida Ron De Santis abandoned the race.
Haley’s net approval rating has hit new lows again, with the lowest ratings since tracking began in December 2022. The former UN ambassador’s favorites ranking is just five points higher than her unfavorable ranking in the latest poll .
It was recently announced that some large donors have stopped funding Haley’s campaign.
