(Reuters) -At least two people died and six others were injured in a shooting at a party in Memphis, Tennessee on Saturday, police said.
“During the subsequent investigation, we learned that there were 8 victims in total, including two who died at the scene,” Memphis police said in an updated statement posted on X.
Police had previously said 16 people had been killed.
One of the injured remains in critical condition, while another has been released, police said.
“This was a neighborhood party that was taking place without a permit,” police said. About 200-300 people attended the neighborhood party.
At least two suspects are wanted, CBS News said, citing interim Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis.
“We believe there are at least two people who fired weapons during this incident,” Davis told CBS News.
Memphis police could not immediately be reached for further comment.
