UnitedHealth (NYSE: UNH) said the company is poised to clear a backlog of more than $14 billion in medical claims as soon as its software applications hit by the recent cyberattack on its Change Healthcare unit resume operations.
This was stated by the healthcare giant based in Minnetonka, Minnesota that its medical claims preparation software, Assurance, came back online earlier this week, and its largest clearinghouse, Relay Exchange, will resume operations on the weekend of March 23.
“Once a critical mass of payer connectivity has been established, we will activate claims processing for Assurance customers,” UNH said in an update Friday.
“As of March 22, claims with over $14 billion in charges have been made available for processing through Assurance software,” the company added.
“After activating Assurance software customers, we will turn our attention to reactivating all other individuals who have submitted Relay Exchange claims.”
UnitedHealth (UNH) said Wednesday that Assurance and Relay Exchange, Change Healthcare’s cloud-based services for processing medical claims, have been “fully rebuilt” after the cybersecurity incident blamed on the “Blackcat” hacking group “.
Also on Friday, UNH updated that it had advanced more than $2.5 billion in funding for health care providers affected by the crisis, a sizable increase from the $2 billion advance payments the company announced earlier this week .
