Donald Trump is leading Joe Biden among independent voters by double digits, according to a new poll.
As recently as January, Trump was leading Biden by double digits among independents in another poll, so this is a continuation of that trend.
Political media tends to focus on the left and right, especially in election years, but it is often voters who fall somewhere in the middle who decide the outcome of elections.
Breitbart News reports:
Poll: Donald Trump has a double-digit lead over Joe Biden among independents
Former President Donald Trump has a double-digit lead over President Joe Biden among independents, according to the latest poll Economist/YouGov found.
The poll, conducted March 10-12, 2024 among 1,559 adult US citizens, asked respondents who they would support in a presidential matchup between Trump and Biden, a repeat in 2020.
Among all respondents and among registered voters, Trump leads Biden by two points: 44% versus 42% support for Biden. As of early March, the two were tied at 44% each. Trump predictably has the support of a majority of Republicans, 89%, while Biden has the support of a majority of Democrats, also at 89%. This naturally means all eyes are on the independents, who support Trump over the incumbent in the recent poll.
Trump gets the support of 40% of independents, while Biden comes ten points behind with 30%. Another 13% say “other,” 5% are unsure and 11% say they won’t vote.
Independents disapprove of how Biden is handling his job by as much as 63%.
